Our Story and Nordic Roots

Aavalabs was founded in 2011 in Helsinki by Otso Kääriäinen with a clear vision: to create pure, effective supplements that fit into modern, busy lives. What started as a small family business has grown into a global company, yet our Nordic roots still guide the way we think and act every day.

Even our name reflects this spirit. “Aava” is a Finnish word that means openness and boundless beauty, inspired by the vast sea and endless pine forests of the North. It represents clarity, transparency, and harmony with nature. “Labs” stands for scientific precision and our commitment to developing supplements that are safe, effective, and backed by research.

Together, Aavalabs embodies the balance of nature and science.

Since 2022 we’ve partnered with Vitamin Angels, committing at least 1% of our profits to provide mothers and children worldwide with essential nutrition. In fact, last year we donated almost 2%. But generosity for us goes beyond external impact, it also lives within our team culture. We support each other, share knowledge openly, and go the extra mile to ensure that whether it’s a customer reaching out with a question or a teammate needing a hand, everyone leaves feeling cared for and supported.

Our Team and Culture

While our roots are Nordic, today Aavalabs is truly international. We are a fully remote company with colleagues in more than 15 countries, speaking many languages and living very different lives. This setup allows everyone to design a lifestyle that feels fulfilling, whether that means parents working while their children are at school, creatives finding their flow early in the morning, or teammates joining from a cabin in Lapland or a café in France. This flexibility not only enhances our diversity but also makes us truly unique, it’s what sets us apart and makes Aavalabs so special.

Once a year, we come together for our workation: a week of fresh ideas, shared meals, Finnish sauna rituals, and sometimes karaoke. These gatherings remind us that even though distance separates us, our culture is built on trust, joy, and the belief that great work can happen anywhere.
