The differences of probiotic for women & men

Right or wrong? All bacteria are bad and can make you sick.

Especially in the days of Covid, there were so many antibacterial products sold on the market that you would think it was true. In fact, it couldn't be further from the truth.

There is a distinction between good bacteria and bad bacteria. The good bacteria in the gut help break down food and then absorb nutrients in the digestive tract. Without healthy intestinal flora, unpleasant symptoms such as diarrhea, diabetes, obesity and psychological problems can occur.

It is therefore important that there is a balance between good and bad bacteria. An imbalance occurs when there are too many bad bacteria and not enough good bacteria. Poor diet, disease, antibiotics and other medications can cause this imbalance.

Probiotics help replenish the good bacteria in our body and restore the balance.

How gut health affects our body

The health of the intestine has a great influence on other systems in the body. The benefits of taking probiotics are therefore surprisingly diverse.

Taking probiotics has many benefits, including:

  • Support for digestive disorders (ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and necrotizing enterocolitis).
  • Improvement of the immune system
  • Support of mental health
  • Improvement of general well-being

Make taking probiotics in capsule form part of your daily routine! Your body will thank you.

Probiotics for women & men

The digestive systems of men and women are largely identical. However, there are a few differences in gut health.

Men are more prone to heartburn and small intestinal ulcers.

Women, on the other hand, are more affected by some digestive disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and constipation.

Women also process stress differently than men - they produce hormones that can affect digestion. The reproductive organs in women are located in the lower abdomen, which can make them prone to abdominal pain.

Women are also more susceptible to digestive side effects from medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Chronic use of these medications is more likely to cause inflammation and damage to the gastrointestinal tract in women than in men.

There are also good and bad bacteria in the vagina. An imbalance can lead to a fungal infection. In addition, hormonal changes due to the menstrual cycle or menopause can affect the bacteria.

So: both men and women benefit from probiotics. However, in different ways.

How to choose a probiotic

When buying probiotics, you should of course pay particular attention to the quality and diversity of the bacterial strains. A high number of colony forming units (CFU) provides the best results.

Women and men should pay attention to different characteristics when buying probiotics.

Probiotics for women

Women often do not talk about problems in the intimate area out of shame, but withdraw and isolate themselves. But there is nothing to be ashamed of.

If the microbiological balance is intact, pathogenic bacteria or fungal pathogens are not completely absent, but they do not find sufficiently good living conditions to multiply at will and thus cause an infectious disease. In the vagina, it is primarily the task of lactic acid bacteria (lactobacilli) to provide effective protective mechanisms against pathogens with their specific metabolic functions.

Lactobacilli utilize the sugar that the vaginal cells store under the influence of estrogen. Some lactobacillus strains also produce hydrogen peroxide. The oxygen released has a disinfecting and oxidizing effect and, together with the high acidity of the environment, repels invasive pathogens.

Probiotics specifically for women support the vaginal flora.

Attention should be paid to the balance of vaginal flora when choosing a suitable probiotic. There are specific bacteria that can help with urinary tract, bacterial, viral or fungal infections. The most important vaginal probiotics include Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Our new Women Probiolac contains 4 beneficial bacteria to support the intestinal flora. It also supports the vaginal flora. A balanced vaginal flora can prevent intimate problems in women.

Probiotics for men

Men, of course, do not have to be careful to choose a probiotic that supports vaginal flora. However, if you think that taking a probiotic in a man only supports the intestinal flora, general well-being and the immune system, you are wrong.

Researchers have found in a scientific study that probiotics can improve sperm quality. The volume of ejaculate increased in researches taking lactobacilli, sperm concentration almost doubled. Sperm motility improved from 7 to 16 percent, and the number of malformed sperm decreased. Men should especially make sure that the probiotic they choose contains many different strains of bacteria, especially strains from the Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria families of bacteria.

Our Premium Probiolac contains 30 different strains of good bacteria and also contains zinc, to support immune function, macronutrient metabolism and protect cells from oxidative stress.

Add probiotic to your health routine

Probiotic bacteria are a boon for the intestines, for the immune system and thus for overall health.  With probiotics, regular intake is crucial. Ideally, you take probiotics every morning right after waking up.

When buying, look for:

  • A sufficiently high amount of beneficial microorganisms.
  • A wide variety of probiotic bacterial strains: the more, the better.
  • Strains from the Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria bacterial families.
