Spirulina is a type of cyanobacteria that has been growing naturally in our environment for millions of years

It was a food source for the Aztecs in the 16th century.  Later, in the 1960s and 70s, it was rediscovered and studied by a number of researchers. Today this blue-green algae has earned fame as a protein rich superfood with production in several countries. Besides nutritional supplements spirulina is used in cosmetics and even for water purification.

So what is making it so popular? Here are five reasons why you should consider adding Spirulina & Chlorella to your diet today!

1. Spirulina is high in many nutrients

Spirulina is an excellent source of protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and selenium. In fact it is said that these microalgae have a higher nutrient density than cabbage, spinach and even broccoli!

By adding spirulina to your diet you can easily optimize your intake of nutrients and give your dishes, drinks and deserts a healthy upgrade within seconds.

2. Spirulina is versatile

Spirulina can be added to smoothies, juices and other cold beverages. You can also add spirulina powder to energy balls, sprinkle it over your salad and soups. The options are endless!

In order to balance out the flavour (it takes some time to get used to it) we recommend combining it with sweet fruits like bananas, pineapple, and mango.

You can also mix it to sweet fruit juices and turn them into a healthy green vitamin drink in an instant.

Try this easy smoothie recipe for starters:

  • banana, frozen
  • mango, frozen
  • cucumber
  • spirulina (contents of 3 capsules)
  • plant milk of choice
  • Natural orange juice
  • avocado or almond butter

You can also add hemp seeds or try variations with coconut milk or berries. Mix all ingredients in a blender. You can always adjust the thickness by adding more or less liquid.

3. Powerful Antioxidants

Spirulina is considered a powerful antioxidant. The main active component is called phycocyanin, which is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

The antioxidant activities of spirulina have been demonstrated in various preclinical trials. Researchers from Japan discovered that phycocyanin protects the liver and the kidneys and activates the immune system.

One more good reason, why you should add spirulina to your diet today!

4. Spirulina is great for detoxification

Both Spirulina & Chlorella are great for detoxing. The algae is believed to be alkalizing to the body. The contained chlorophyll helps remove toxins such as heavy metals and various other pollutants from the blood.

That's why we have added our Spirulina & Chlorella capsules to our Spring Favorites Bundle. It´s a great product if you're planning a spring detox.

5. Spirulina offers many health benefits

Research suggests that there are several health benefits associated with Spirulina. Here´s a list:

  • Spirulina may help with weight loss.
  • Spirulina may preserve healthy gut bacteria.
  • Studies suggest spirulina might be helpful to manage diabetes.
  • Taking spirulina extract may help to lower cholesterol levels
  • Spirulina may play a role in preventing heart disease.
  • Spirulina may help boost a person’s metabolism
  • Spirulina may reduce allergy symptoms.

While all of the health claims are not yet widely acknowledged or officially confirmed, the growing popularity of spirulina speaks for itself. We have received lots of positive feedback from customers who bought our Spirulina & Chlorella capsules and reported a noticeable difference in their wellbeing.

Taking spirulina is easy!
