Vitamins & minerals for healthy eyes & vision

Vitamins & minerals for healthy eyes & vision

More and more people worldwide are affected by visual impairment, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness or presbyopia. Common reasons for this are UV light, smoking, increasing age or an unbalanced, unhealthy diet.

In the case of a visual defect of the eyes, a change in the eye structure causes the incident light to no longer reach the retina correctly. Depending on the type of visual impairment, it is no longer possible to see sharply. Distant or even close objects can no longer be seen sharply with the naked eye due to the visual impairment. Glasses or contact lenses can help to compensate for such visual impairments.

But there are also a few tips and tricks with which you can support your eyes and maybe even prevent a visual impairment.

Vitamins & minerals for your eyes

Vitamins for the eyes and a balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables are the secret recipe for good vision. If you already have impaired vision, we recommend that you see an ophthalmologist.

Make sure you take as many vitamins as possible every day. Because trace elements and vitamins all have a different effect on the eyes, it is important to eat a balanced and varied diet.

These vitamins and minerals are especially important for your eyes:

Vitamin A

Beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A in our bodies. The retina in particular depends on this vitamin. In its light-sensitive sensory cells, the rods and cones, light is converted into nerve impulses that the brain can process. The rods are responsible for perceiving differences in brightness up to a certain light intensity. They are especially important for vision during twilight and at night. The rods contain the particularly light-sensitive visual pigment rhodopsin. The cones, on the other hand, become active by splitting their visual pigment photopsin only in relatively bright light. With sufficient light conditions, colors can be perceived correctly through them.

One of our  beta-carotene capsules a day will provide you with a healthy amount of vitamin A.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C has an antioxidant effect. It scavenges free radicals and thus protects the eyes from cell damage. In addition, vitamin C can reduce the risk of lens opacification. According to researchers, the vitamin accumulates in the aqueous humor surrounding the lens and reduces oxidative stress there.

Vitamin E

It protects the cells of the eyes against free radicals - those aggressive compounds that are formed, for example, by UV radiation and can damage healthy tissue. In addition, vitamin E can counteract cataracts and age-related visual impairment.

Vitamin B

B6, B12 and folic acid are particularly important for the prevention of visual impairment: if they are present in sufficient quantities, they can reduce the risk of visual impairment and other diseases of the eye and thus support the preservation of vision.

Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are important for the development and function of the retina. The retina even consists largely of them. The fatty acids also have an anti-inflammatory effect and protect against dry eyes because the glands at the edges of the eyelids produce more secretion as a result. Omega 3 is also said to have a protective effect against cataracts and retinal diseases.

We offer two different omega-3 capsules:

Our  premium formula with fish oil and  vegan omega-3 capsules.

Zinc

The trace element zinc enables vitamin A to produce the pigment melanin. This protects the eye from the influence of harmful UV rays. Studies also indicate that increased zinc intake can slow down the progression of disease in certain forms of age-related visual impairment.

This is how a deficiency of eye vitamins manifests itself

If the eyes lack certain vitamins and substances, this can become apparent in various ways. A common sign is deteriorated vision.

Other possible symptoms are:

  •       poorer vision in twilight and at night
  •       increased sensitivity to glare
  •       dry eyes
  •       irritated eyes

If you notice symptoms like these in yourself, you should have your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist or optometrist.

Support the health of our eyes in a natural way

We admit: A healthy, balanced diet and drinking enough water is always our number one tip, no matter what the health issue is.

Our body needs sufficient vitamins and minerals to function properly. Your eyes can also only function properly if they are regularly supplied with vitamins. So if you regularly take vitamins and minerals for good vision, you can protect your vision and eye health as a precaution and at the same time alleviate acute complaints.
